چکیده مقاله:
This study aimed to investigate the effect of thiamethoxam (Actara 25 WG) on the predation rate of Orius albidipennis by feeding on the treated prey (Aphis gossypii). First, equal (100 μg AI/L), half and a quarter of the recommended concentration for aphids were prepared, and the first instars of prey (<24 h old) were dipped for 10 s in each of them and 0.05% solution of water and tween 80 as control. Several 30 treated aphids, after air-drying, were placed in a petri dish on cucumber leaves in an agar bed with one predator nymph (<24 h old). From day two onwards, predators were fed untreated prey. After adult emergence, predators were paired and provided 70 aphids daily until death. The experiment was performed in 100 replications under 25 ± 2 ̊C, 65 ± 5% RH, and 16L:8D photoperiod. During daily surveys, life stage, survival and number of aphids eaten were recorded. Thiamethoxam reduced the total consumption rate by about 40% compared to control. Due to the high mortality at two higher concentrations of thiamethoxam, the predation rate parameters could not be calculated. The net predation rate (C0) and the stable predation rate (ψ) decreased, and the transformation rate (Qp) increased compared to the control. The finite consumption rate (ω) decreased from 7.27 ± 0.13 in the control treatment to 4.71 ± 0.10 aphids per predator in the treatment of 25 μg AI/L insecticide. In the form of foliar spraying, thiamethoxam is not recommended in IPM programs for cotton aphids.
