چکیده مقاله:
Cold storage is a common technique to prolong the shelf life of the mass-reared natural enemies in insectaries. The predatory mite Neoseiulus barkeri Hughes (Acari: Phytoseiidae) is one of the native predator of the country. We used small container (3 cm diameter and 10 cm height) with the cover materials (corn pollen sheath) at four constant temperatures (0 ◦C, 5 ◦C, 10 ◦C and 15 ◦C). In each container, 20 female predatory mites with 100 different biological stages of the storage mite Tyrophagus putrescentiae (Schrank) were used with 20 replicates. The numbers of mites were counted after 5, 10, 20 and 40 days. The survival rate of the predatory mites at different temperatures showed significant differences. The number of the predatory mite in first count (5 days after) at 0◦C, 5◦C, 10◦C, 15◦C were 6.37, 16.62, 16.12, 11.12 respectively and in second count (10 days after) (2.62, 12.13, 13.87 and 10.37), third count (20 days after) (2.70, 7.00, 5.87 and 4.00) and fourth count (40 days after) (0, 3, 3,0) were respectively. The highest percentage of survival rate was observed at 5◦C and 10◦C. The survival rate of the predatory mite was 80.6±1 %, 60±1.22%, 35±4.30% and 15±1.00 % at 5◦C after 5, 10, 20 and 40 days and 80.6±1 %, 61±2.22%, 28.9±2.30% and 15±1.00 % at 10◦C respectively. It seems that the sheath of corn pollen at 5◦C or 10◦C is the best for storage condition of this predatory mite. Storage for more than 20 days causes population losses.
