چکیده مقاله: |
Tomato (Solanum lycopersici) is an important vegetable widely cultivated worldwide. As a parasitic flowering plant, the broomrape (Phelipanche aegyptiaca) is among the main threats to tomato production. None of the chemical, cultural, and physical control methods have resulted in the complete control of broomrape. Simultaneous use of several methods in the form of integrated management is of great interest nowadays to control broomrape. In this study, four endomycorrhizal species, namely Funneliformis mosseae, Rhizophagus irregularis, Glomus etunicatum, and G. fasiculatum were inoculated on tomato seedlings in trays and evaluated for their controlling effect against broomrape infection. F. mosseae was the most effective species in inhibiting broomrape. It significantly reduced the dry weight of broomrape, showed the least area under disease progress curve (AUDPC), and the lowest number of broomrape shoots per a single tomato plant. Among the four mycorrhizal Fungi, R. irregularis increased the dry weight of tomato shoots in the absence of broomrape. The results collectively showed that some endomycorrhizal Fungi have a good growth promotion in tomatoes and inhibition against broomrape. |
